Fluoride System Shut Down by the City of Everett

The City of Everett will be shutting down and upgrading the fluoridation system at the Water Filtration Plant. The project will begin when the current supply of hydrofluosilicic acid is exhausted-around February 7th 2012 and will take about six weeks to complete. You will be notified when the system is shut down and when it is ready to be returned to service.
The City has consulted with the Washington State Department of Health and Snohomish Health District regarding this temporary shutdown of the fluoridation system. They have advised us the shutdown will have minimal impact on dental health provided the system is in operation for the remainder of the year. For a temporary shutdown such as this, there is no requirement to notify the public.
If you have questions about the shutdown, please contact Lowell Lorenz at 425-257-8200 or llorenz@ci.everett.wa.us. Questions regarding health issues related to water fluoridation should be directed to Leann Cooper, dental hygienist at the Snohomish Health District, 425-339-5230 or lcooper@shd.snohomish.wa.gov.
